When the weather gets nice, it’s time to get going. On any warm, sunny Short-Term day, Bates students are eager to go off campus. Luckily, a mere 30 minutes away in Gray, Maine, there waits a perfect place to spend the afternoon: the Maine Wildlife Park.
Home to more than 30 species of wildlife, this reserve features favorite wild animals such as moose, black bears, mountain lions, and most importantly, real-life bobcats—our college mascot. Notoriously vicious and powerful (just like your average Batesie), these bobcats live among other predators, such as foxes and coyotes.
The park also offers interactive talks featuring different animals, areas for picnics and barbecues, and opportunities to feed the animals.
